In 2010, Brazil will elect its new President. The Consulate-General will accept new applications for voter's card and requests to regularize status until May 5th, 2010.
All Brazilian citizens between 18 and 70 years-old, living abroad, must fill their electoral obligations regarding having their voter's card and vote in Presidential elections.
The forms must be picked up in person at the Consulate-General, as there's no online version of it. If the person wishes, he/she can send a prepaid envelope so the Consulate-General can mail the forms to them. For the year of 2010, the Consulate will not accept applications received after May 5th.
Vote is optional for citizens between 16 and 18 years-old and over 70 years-old and for the illiterated.
Requirements to apply for a new voter's card:
The
Electoral application requirement (Requerimento de Alistamento
Eleitoral - RER) will be sent to the Electoral Justice in Brazil for
processing. Once processed, the elector can check his/her name on our
website and pick up in person.
Maintenance of your voter' status:
If, for any reason, you did not vote or justify your ausence at the previous elections, your voter' situation might be irregular or even have been cancelled.
If this is the case you will not be able to apply for a new Brazilian passport.
To have your situation regular again, you will need to pay the fines refering to each election you did not vote or justified.
Given the impossibility to pay the fine abroad, you will need to fill the Request to Cancel the Payment of Fines (Pedido de Dispensa de Recolhimento de Multas) and submit it to the Consulate-General.
The request will be sent to the Electoral Justice to be analyzed and, if approved, the voter will have his/her situation considered regular.
