Due
to the high number of applications received, the Consulate-General does
not confirm the receipt of documents neither checks the status of any
process over the phone or email.
Only Brazilian nationals and those holding the Brazilian permanent resident card (RNE - Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros) can prepare a power of attorney at the Consulate-General.
Any other person will need to prepare the power of attorney with a notary public or lawyer and, then, bring it to the Consulate-General for legalization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- The text and description of the powers to be transfered from the principal to the attorney, in a clear and concise manner. It can be sent to the Consulate-General by mail or in person, along with the fee and all of the required documents.

Power of Attorney request (in Portuguese) dully completed and signed.

Information about the Principal (the person who is transfering the powers) and the Attorney (the person receiving the powers), as follows:
- Full name, as per the passport or another Brazilian ID.
- Complete address, with street, number, complement, city, State/Province, country and zip code).
- Marital status.
- Profession.
- Number of the Brazilian ID (RG), with the issuing authority and State.
- Copy of the Tax Payer Card (CIC/ CPF).
FEE:
- CAD$25.00 per signature of each Principal in each Power of Attorney document.
- In case of power of attorney done by husband and wife or between siblings, the Consulate-General will consider as only one Principal.

Power of Attorney for INSS (old age/retirement pension): CAD$6.25
FORMS OF PAYMENT:
- Money order or certified cheque only, payable to the "Consulate-General of Brazil".
- The Consulate-General does not accept payments in cash, personal cheque or debit/credit card.
RETIREMENT PENSION FROM INSS:

INSS (old age pension) usually requires that the person send together with the Power of Attorney, a Life Certificate.
- The requirement documents are the same as listed above

In this case, the Consulate-General does not charge for the Power of Attorney but only for the Life Certificate, which costs CAD$6.25.
- This Power of Attorney is valid for 6 months.
NOTES:
- For legalization done by mail, the applicant must include a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope from Canada Post (XpressPost, Purolator or Priority Courier only) for return of the documents.

Foreigners who do not hold RNE or CPF (tax payer card), must prepare a
power of attorney at the notary public or lawyer and then bring it to
the Consulate for legalization.
- Make sure you have the tracking number for your own control.
- Due to the large number of documents received everyday, the Consulate is unable to confirm the arrival of any application.
- The Consulate-General is not responsible for lost, stolen or delayed mail.
