- LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS
Due
to the high number of applications received, the Consulate-General does
not confirm the receipt of documents neither checks the status of any
process over the phone or email.
-
The signature on a foreign document will have to be legalized by the Consulate-General before being valid in Brazil. The legalization of the signature does not imply the acceptance of the document's contents.
- The signature on the document has to be previously recognized by a notary public or lawyer. The notary public or lawyer must also be recognized by the competent instituition in the Province (either the Law Society or the Notaries Society, see below).
- Documents issued by organs of the Provincial/Federal Government, such as birth, marriage and death certificates, do not need to be recognized by the notary public. Divorce certificates, however, must be notarized and authenticated before being submitted to the Consulate.
- The Consulate-General accepts only original documents. Photocopies are not accepted and will be returned to the sender, if a pre-paid envelope has been provided.
- The Consulate-General can only legalized documents issued in its jurisdiction: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Northwest Territories.
