Due
to the high number of applications received, the Consulate-General does
not confirm the receipt of documents neither checks the status of any
process over the phone or email.

The Consulate-General of Brazil in Vancouver issues birth
certificates from the following Provinces only: British Columbia, Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
- A child born in another country other than Canada can be registered
at this Consulate-General only if the original birth certificate has
been previously legalized by the Brazilian Consular office in the
country of the original document.
New instructions for the registration of Brazilian citizens born abroad:
- Witness' signatures are not mandatory anymore. However, the Consulate-General reserves the right to request it so if deemed necessary. If it's the case, the Consulate-General will contact the application with the instructions.

There is no more need of judicial authorization to register Brazilian citizens over 12 years-old, when born abroad. From now on, the Consular offices must, upon request, register the birth of children from Brazilian father or mother, born outside Brazil. The registration can be done at any time, regardless the child's age.
- For 12 years-old and older: the presence of the child is mandatory.
- For minors between 16 and 18 years-old: the child will be the applicant and the presence of the Brazilian parents is mandatory.
- For adults over 18 years-old: the person will be the applicant and the parent's presence is not necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- The Brazilian parent must be present at the Consulate-General for
signature of the Register Letter, upon processing the birth certificate.
- Original and photocopy of the official birth certificate issued by
the Canadian Vital Statistics with both parent's full name. This
document, called "large form" or "long form", can be requested by the
parents to the Canadian Vital Statistics.

Original and photocopy of the Brazilian Identity card of the Brazilian parent OR his/her Brazilian birth certificate.
- Original and photocopy of a valid Brazilian passport from the parent.

Original and photocopy of the foreign parent's birth certificate with his/her parent's full names.
- Original and photocopy of the Brazilian marriage certificate, when
applicable (if the mother had changed her name upon marriage).

The Birth Registration is free.
- Copy of the birth certificate: CAD$6.25
NOTE:
- To produce legal effects in Brazil, the birth certificate issued
in this Consulate-General needs to be registered at the "Cartório do 1° Ofício de Registro Civil" (civil registry office), in the city where the child or the parents have a legal domicile in Brazil.
- Witnesses are not required anymore. However, the Consulate-General reserves the right to require witnesses if deemed necessary. If it is the case, the applicant will be contacted for instructions on how to proceed.
- In the case of not having a legal
domicile, the registy must be done at the civil registry office in
Brasília, DF. ("Cartório do 1° Ofício de Registro Civel do Distrito Federal").
RE-ISSUANCE OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE:

A copy of the birth certificate can be requested for children
registered at this Consulate-General only. For any other case, the
applicant must request it to the Brazilian office abroad that had
issued the original document. Click here for instructions.
- For re-issuance of the the birth certificate, there is a fee of
CAD$6.25, payable by money order or certified cheque only, to the "Consulate-General of Brazil". Cash, personal cheques or debit/ credit cards are not accepted.
MAILING THE APPLICATION:
- The application can be sent by mail. However, the applicant(s) must come personally to the Consulate-General to sign the Registry Book, once the birth certificate is processed.
- Make
sure you have both tracking numbers for your own control. Due to the
large number of documents received everyday, the Consulate is unable to
confirm the arrival of any application.
- The Consulate-General is not responsible for lost, stolen or delayed mail.
